Mental Health and Well-being

Recently I have noticed the increase in suicide and depression within young people and I've decided I want to do something about this and raise awareness.

Each year thousands of people are found dead by taking their own lives. These talented, beautiful, kind, caring and unique individuals feel so lost that the only way out is to end their lives completely and this brings me deep heart ache.

True, we cannot always tell what a person is thinking or feeling and quite often those who are depressed look the happiest. So how can we help someone who may be depressed when you cant tell because they look happy?

Sometimes it is the most unexpected people. Many people who have committed suicide have been rich, poor, sick, healthy, young or old, some you may even think 'had it all'.

Sadly we live in a world where everything you want doesn't necessarily make you happy. A common cause for suicide is peoples attitudes towards others. So what can we as individuals do about it?

Each day someone around you is struggling, whether you know about it or not. Whether at work, school, in the street, in a shop, in your home or even in front of you, you will always be around someone in your life time that is struggling with their life and you wont even know it. So we must be kind always, we need to strive to show love at all times

Now, i'm not saying that our attitude is the ultimate cause for people taking their own lives but we can try our best to make others feel better than they do by simply being kind.

Suicide is complex. It usually occurs gradually, progressing from suicidal thoughts, to planning, to attempting suicide and finally dying by suicide.

Quite often many turn to drug abuse as they feel it takes them away from their real life feelings, but this is temporary and only makes things worse.

Now if you're reading this and you have been effected or are being effected by other peoples actions towards you, please know that you are valued and things will get better. Although you may feel lost now, your life is valued and you are wanted.

All I ask of people is that they keep being kind, keep showing love because it will not only make others feel better, it will also help yourself. 'Like attracts Like', when you show love you will receive love in different forms.

We live in a world were social media is a big part of life. Through Instagram, Twitter, Snapchat, Facebook and many more we can post comments and pictures of ourselves and others. We need to be 'social media smart' in how we use our communication with these, ensuring we are not posting comments that may hurt others, whether it be a joke or not!

People can come across as happy on social media and it portrays a complete different image than what others are going through. One recent example is the death of Sophie Gardon, who had taken her own life hours after she was shown laughing and joking on social media. So never assume someone is happy because they look happy.

So what do I want to come about from this blog? I want people's attitudes to other people to change. Yes, unexpected events or illness can make us unhappy so you may think this is easier said than done, but if we all strive to have a positive attitude and be kind to others the benefits outweigh so much of our negative thoughts and feelings.

No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted.

Lets try make others happy and remember... A Smile Can Make A Difference.
